Creative Art Tips for Toddlers

Creative art activities are fun! They also provide valuable in-depth learning experiences.

Children love to experiment with sounds (voices and instruments), to discover how art materials and tools work (dough, markers, drums, streamers), and to explore body movements (dance, facial expressions, fine-motor skills).

Give your toddler the chance to try a wide range of art activities that are not only fun but, extremely beneficial to their development. Children’s imaginations blossom through art and music!

Tips for setting up the creative spot

Make sure your child has a spot that encourages their creativity and also makes cleaning up easier. Remember, great pieces of art are usually messy!

Basic art components for your little art studio:

  • Easels
  • Open shelves
  • Tables
  • Clear plastic storage container
  • A nearby sink is convenient

Children usually like to stand up when working on their projects. Space is an essential element for children, especially when they build large structures or dance to own songs.

Tip: Arrange materials on low shelves so children can reach them easily.

Ask your children to help you set up their creative nook, include them in activities like mixing paints, filling water containers, choosing the music.

Tip: Labelled shelves and sponges, paper towels, soap, and waste baskets ease cleanup.

Advice: Close adult supervision is required to ensure the safety of young children. Projects with small parts and scissors with metal blades are for children ages 4 and older.
