NAPCAN Week 2024 - Playgroup Resources

What’s it all about:

The National Association for Prevention of Child abuse and Neglect (NAPCAN) was co-founded by Rosemary Sinclair AO and Christine Stewart OAM in 1987, because they saw that the abuse and neglect of children was a taboo topic in Australian society in the 1980s. They were determined to change this and create safer communities for children. They set about to achieve this vision with the assistance of a passionate team of volunteers and a range of influential and committed partners.

For over 30 years, NAPCAN has been running the annual NAPCAN Child Protection Week campaign. Each campaign builds on the strengths of previous years and has evolved to provide support to communities to act on the core message, “protecting children is everyone’s business”.

As it stands today, NCPW aims to engage, educate and empower Australians to understand the complexity of child abuse and neglect and work together to prevent it. The campaign does this through sharing evidence through webinars and events as well as creating resources in order to empower communities to have conversations regarding children’s safety and wellbeing.

Playgroup NSW is committed to protecting children and supports the impactful efforts of NAPCAN and we encourage all parents, carers and educators to get involved, be informed and protect children, because child protection is everybody's business.

How Playgroups and Educators Can Get Involved

This year National Child Protection Week continues to champion the message ‘Every child in every community needs a fair go’.

This message captures the essence of National Child Protection Week which aims to promote a safe and supported life for every child, now and into the future.

In 2024, the message that ‘Every child in every community needs a fair go’ will be complemented with the theme ‘Every conversation matters’.

Conversations are powerful tools to keep children and young people safe and well.

Therefore, this year NAPCAN  are calling all Australians to start a new conversation.

To help you start conversations, Playgroup NSW has created a pack of Conversation Cards to help you start conversations within your Playgroup.

There is also a collection of Books, Songs and other materials you can watch read and listen to help you have impactful conversations within your Playgroup.
