Finger Painting in a Bag

Description:

No mess finger painting for babies and toddlers

Materials Required

  1. Large plastic sandwich bag
  2. Masking tape
  3. Coloured paint

Preparation

Add one or more spoons of paint to the sandwich bag – Carefully seal the bag, removing the air from the bag as you close it – Tape the bag to a flat surface (table, window).

Method (or Ideas)

  1. Allow your child to push the paint around in the bag, finger painting without the mess.

Facilitation Tips – What To Say

  • Talk about the colours mixing/the movement of the colours
  • Describe the sensation of moving the paint through the plastic
  • Talk about the colour/colours.

Extend the Experience

  • You may like to finger paint without the sandwich bag, or make paint with your child.
  • Explore different colours. Having three bags side by side (one with one colour, one with a different colour and a third with both colours) and discuss the change and lack of change with your child.

WHO Guidelines for Physical Activity & Sedentary Behaviour

This is a quiet activity, by removing chairs and encouraging your child to stand while engaging in this play experience you can promote movement. Remember to include some more physical activity in your child’s day.
