We’re excited to have Dr Louise Porter as our guest speaker at this year’s AGM. Dr Porter is a child psychologist with more than 35 years of experience in private practice, where she consults parents and practitioners on children’s developmental, social and emotional challenges.

She will examine and discuss the "guidance approach" -- a practical alternative to "controlling discipline," which utilises rewards and punishments to manage behaviour. The guidance approach believes that children do better when given the skills to regulate their feelings and impulses.

Your Guide to Toddler Talk: Insights from a Speech Pathologist Mum

It’s common for parents to wonder how well their toddler’s language skills are developing. What’s typical? What should you look out for? And what can you do to keep the conversation flowing?

Speech pathologist (and mum of three) Mimi Naylor has the answers.

5 Tips to Minimise Messy Mealtimes with Your Toddler

Content provided by Kinderling Radio, a Playgroup NSW media partner

Are mealtimes more like "messy times" in your household? All toddlers love to play with their food more than eat it. So what can you do when your home-cooked meals keep ending up on the floor rather than in your toddler’s hungry belly?

Resident child expert at Kinderling Helpline, Chris Minogue, provides five easy tips to help you win the next food fight with your toddler.

All in the Family: Playgroup Across Three Generations

In July Playgroup NSW celebrated its 45th anniversary. That’s more than four decades of dedication to supporting families and strengthening local communities through playgroups.

To mark the occasion, we spoke with some of our members who fondly recall attending playgroup as youngsters. Now parents themselves, they’re enjoying the experience with their own children and appreciating the benefit of playgroup from a grown-up perspective.

We also hear from a dedicated grandmother who helps coordinate activities at her granddaughters’ playgroup – the same one she took their father to in the late 1980s.

Ping-Pong Play Activities

Children love playing with balls of all shapes and sizes. And with good reason: balls are great for group play, organised sports or just playing by yourself.

These activities are also suitable for a variety of age groups -- from babies to children and even adults.
